Andy was raised in Woodbridge and Kleinburg Ontario but moved to the Ottawa area for university, graduating from Carleton in 1986 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was immediately hired by Honeywell Information Systems, participated in their National Sales Training Program, and remained in that industry with Honeywell and subsequently Wang until 1993 when he co-founded FastLane Technologies. Having sold his stake in that company he then co-founded NCI in 1995, becoming the Canadian sales representatives of companies that specialized in the Banyan Network market niche. NCI continued until Andy and his partner agreed to sell their organization to one of the companies they represented, CommVault Systems of Oceanport NJ, and he managed their Canadian sales and marketing operations until retiring in 2003. His time in retirement has included volunteer roles with the Katimavik Co-operative Nursery school as well as hosting four annual dinner auctions which raised roughly $40,000 for communities in need in sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2016 Andy has sold real estate for Royal Lepage Team Realty. Andy has also been head coach of 34 hockey, baseball or soccer teams in Kanata 2008-2020, as well as another 10 in West Carleton prior to that. He has loved every minute of coaching and the friendships and connection to his community that coaching has afforded, and the stories the sports have inspired. He has also served 8 times on the executive of Kanata Minor Hockey. His travels especially with Arran, including 6 home exchanges over the years, have spurred some of the pieces he has written. His three sons Jamie, Jackson and Drew keep him active in the community, and he has a young grandson and granddaughter. He continues to play hockey, softball, golf and tennis, and hopes that his life remains as detailed, and continues to inspire his travel blogs, fiction and poetry.
